For week two of the 2015 Apertura, Club Santos Laguna ventured south to Chiapas, Tuxtla Gutierrez, the southernmost state of Mexico, for a game against Jaguares, which was their first road game of the season.

Chiapas is rich with lush vegetation and is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, jungles, cascading waterfalls, ancient Mayan ruins, and boasts one of the largest indigenous populations in the country with twelve federally recognized ethnicities. It’s truly a beautiful place; the city and surrounding areas hold a certain charm of Mexico unique to the area, which borders the Pacific Ocean and Guatemala.

The video shows the team as it departs Torreon – a dry desert town in North Central Mexico – and arrives in Chiapas, and takes the viewer through different parts of the city, including the famous and breathtaking Cañon de Sumidero. We also recorded as Javier Orozco, Andres Renteria, and Kristian Alvarez spent time with kids from AMANC, a regional center throughout Mexico dedicated to helping kids suffering from cancer.

The social activity is part of Santos’ initiative Guerreros De Corazon – an important division of the club devoted to public service and something we do in every city in which we travel.

Check out the video below, its great.

Guerreros in Chiapas is the first video in a five-part series for this Apertura, which is intended to showcase different areas and cultures within the country when the team travels on the road. We hope these videos give viewers and fans in different areas of the world a deeper look into what football in Mexico really feels like.
